Registration and Assessment
A completed registration form and fee of £50 must be received before an assessment can be undertaken (or place offered). Once a registration form has been received, and dependent upon the preferred entry year group, parents will be advised of the assessment date and asked to confirm that they wish to proceed to assessment. The School will request a report from the Head of the child’s current school as part of the assessment procedure.
Entry into Nursery and Reception
Entry to Nursery and Reception is via a waiting list. Places are offered taking account of date of registration, with a preference for siblings.
Entry into Year 1 and 2
We do not formally assess for entry into Year 1, although school reports may be requested to help place a child. If a pupil is seeking a place in Year 1 late in the academic year, such as the summer term, we are likely to do an informal assessment – with a view to how they will fit into Year 2 the following term. For entry into Year 2, assessments are held in the autumn term of the year prior to entry. Year 2 candidates are invited to School to undertake a number of tests and take part in activities. The tests are conducted in a friendly and informal manner, and children cannot prepare for them. The assessment session is designed to be fun and to allow the children to give of their best. A report from the child’s present school and information from the parents will also be taken into consideration. It is likely that the threshold on the test will be exceeded by many of the candidates, and places will be offered to children whom the School believes will thrive. Consideration is also given to a child’s potential in music, drama, art and sport. Assessments may also take place at other terms subject to place availability.
Entry into Years 3 - 8
Assessments are held in the autumn term of the year prior to entry, and places are then offered subject to performance and availability of places. Children sit written papers in English and Maths (full details are available from the Registrar). In certain circumstances the School may accept assessment data from other schools, instead of its own tests. A report from the child’s present school and information from the parents will also be taken into consideration. Please note the School only accepts Year 8 entrants, or pupils for a short period of time (one to three terms), in very exceptional circumstances.
Offer of a place
Following assessment successful candidates will either be offered a place or put on the waiting list. When a place is offered, a deposit of £1000 will be required to secure the place.
