Sport
Sport to enjoy, sport for all and a great choice of sports; that’s part of life at Twyford. Enjoyment, teamwork and good grace are our pillars. Enthusiasm, honesty and always giving your best are the centre of our sport ethos and each pave the way to create supportive and successful teams at every level. We have many high level achievers as is reflected in the number of children that gain county positions, in often more than one sport, and who also are awarded Sports Scholarships to their senior schools (over last 10 years at least 2, and a maximum of 9 sports awards are won every year to senior schools). However, most, if not all, of the less sporty children, share in the enjoyment and satisfaction that sport promotes at every level.
At Twyford sport plays an integral part of the wider curriculum and we offer a full and balanced sports and extra-curricular activities programme. Every age group enjoys weekly PE and swimming lessons in our modern Sports Hall. Our annual sports calendar includes rugby, netball, cricket, hockey, football, lacrosse, cross country and athletics. In addition to this we also offer a range of diverse sports that include waterpolo, cross-country, fencing, lacrosse, girls cricket and rugby.
Our fixture list is extensive, playing 20 different prep schools within an hour minibus drive from Twyford. On Wednesday and Saturday afternoons as many as 26 teams throughout the school are in action. On our busiest match days, 237 children from Year 4 to Year 8 representing 26 school teams are in action at the same time.
We have 6 exceptional sports pitches including an astroturf pitch and training facilities in our beautiful 22 acres of grounds as well as an adventure playground which is full of children climbing, swinging and balancing at break times.
Sport is part of a balanced education. Every child at Twyford is encouraged to participate at the level which suits them and will have the opportunity to get involved in school teams or our inter-house sports competitions during the course of each academic year. Whatever their ability our goal is that all pupils enjoy their sport through the provision of outstanding coaching and training to help them recognise and develop their full potential. This approach of providing sporting opportunities for all goes towards creating an environment where every child can progress.
