BURSAR AND CLERK TO THE GOVERNORS

Twyford School is a successful co-educational, independent day and boarding prep school for pupils aged two to thirteen. Situated in the village of Twyford, near Winchester, the School is set within a truly enviable position of 23 acres of mature grounds, with a beautiful Queen Anne country house as its centrepiece. Surrounded by stunning Hampshire countryside, the School prides itself on being one of the oldest prep schools in the country.

The Governors invite applications for the post of Bursar and Clerk to the Governors. This is a particularly exciting time to join Twyford with the arrival of the new Head, Andrew Harvey, in September 2020.

Twyford is a prestigious and ambitious school with healthy financials and plans to develop and enhance its reputation as one of the leading prep schools in the country. The new Bursar will relish this exceptional opportunity to work alongside the new Head in taking the School into the next chapter of its development.

Reporting to the Head, the Bursar is a critical member of the Senior Leadership Team. He/she is also responsible to the Chair of Governors in their role as Clerk to the Governors. The role holder will be expected to manage the commercial and business aspects of the School and establish highly effective, collaborative relationships with Governors and colleagues at all levels. They will work closely with the new Head to drive the School’s development plan.

The successful candidate will be an individual of proven leadership ability, a strategic thinker and will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Exceptional financial acumen and robust commercial judgement will be essential.

Previous experience as a school bursar would be of benefit but is not essential and applications are encouraged from candidates witcommercial, charitable, private-sector and public-sector backgrounds.
