A Sporting Life, the Twyford Way
Sport to enjoy, sport for all and a great choice of sports - that’s part of life at Twyford.
Enjoyment, teamwork and good grace are our pillars. Enthusiasm, honesty and always giving your best are at the centre of our sporting ethos, paving the way for supportive and successful teams at every level.

Whatever their ability, our goal is that every pupil experiences the joy of sport through outstanding coaching and training that helps them recognise and develop their full potential.
At Twyford, sport plays an integral part of the wider curriculum. Every child is encouraged to participate at the level which suits them, with opportunities to represent the School in teams, take part in inter-house competitions, and simply enjoy physical activity with friends. Whatever their ability, our goal is that every pupil experiences the joy of sport through outstanding coaching and training that helps them recognise and develop their full potential.
As one pupil said so perfectly: "I had fun." And that continues to be the guiding spirit of sport at Twyford.
Breadth and opportunity
Every age group enjoys PE and swimming lessons in our modern Sports Centre. Our annual calendar includes rugby, netball, cricket, hockey, football, cross country and athletics, alongside a diverse range of additional sports such as water polo, lacrosse and badminton. With over 1,000 fixtures played across 14 sports, and every pupil from Year 3 to Year 8 proudly representing the School, sport has become a joyful and integral part of Twyford life.
Our fixture list is extensive, involving 20 different prep schools within an hour’s drive. On Wednesdays (Years 5-8), Thursdays (Years 3-4) and Saturdays (Years 4-8), as many as 26 teams are in action at once. Inter-house competitions, external tournaments, and elite coaching masterclasses delivered by professional athletes further enrich the programme, sharpening skills while inspiring ambition and confidence.
Facilities and environment
We are fortunate to enjoy six exceptional sports pitches, including an Astro-turf pitch, a new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), and training facilities set in 25 acres of beautiful grounds. Our Sports Centre provides modern indoor space, and at break times our adventure playground is alive with climbing, swinging and balancing. It has even been said that Twyford offers the best match teas on the circuit!
Spirit and achievement
We are proud of our many high-level achievers, with pupils regularly gaining county places in multiple sports and winning Sports Scholarships to senior schools. Yet beyond the results, what stands out most is the team spirit, joy and growth shown by every pupil. When asked what they enjoy most about sport, their answer is almost always the same: “having fun.” Few can recall the score of a recent match, but all remember the shared challenges, the camaraderie, and the thrill of competition.
Whether battling for a cup title, stepping up in national competition, or simply giving their best in a friendly fixture, Twyford pupils consistently demonstrate commitment, resilience, and camaraderie. Sport at Twyford builds confidence, forges friendships, and shapes character - values that last a lifetime.
